The 1st International Workshop on Doping Semiconductor Nanostructures will take place during 9–11 January 2006 in Washington DC.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers with a common interest in the intentional doping of semiconductor nanostructures. The importance of dopants in nanostructures can be anticipated from the critical role that they play in bulk semiconductor devices. Doping semiconductor nanostructures should allow their electronic, optical, and/or magnetic properties to be tailored for specific applications. Moreover, the possibility exists to discover novel phenomena due to the confinement of the impurity in a nanometer-scale volume.

However, doping of nanostructures has been more challenging than expected, and significant progress has been made only very recently. An understanding of the doping process is starting to emerge, and physical phenomena are beginning to be investigated. The goal of the workshop is to bring together the people responsible for these advances, to discuss the latest developments, and to stimulate future research in this area.

  • January 4:
    • Please download, print, and bring with you this Information Guide, which contains important information about the Workshop. If you are staying at the Workshop hotel, pay special attention to the section "Transportation to the Naval Research Lab" on page 2.
    • Evident Technologies invites all participants to an informal reception on Sunday evening, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Radisson Hotel in Salon 1. Join your colleagues to enjoy wine & beer, savory hors d'oeuvres, and good company to kick off the workshop!

  • December 16:
    • If you have not yet submitted your abstract, please do so by Monday, December 19. Otherwise it will not appear in the program.
    • Please pre-order your box lunch by replying to the email sent to all participants on December 16.
    • In order to enter NRL and attend the Workshop, you will need to bring government-issued photo identification with you, as follows. (i) US citizens: driver's license (if it has a photo) OR passport. (ii) US Permanent Resident: Green Card. (iii) Foreign national: passport.
    • Please do not bring a camera or a camera cellphone to NRL, or you will be required to leave it outside the Lab. Laptops are permitted inside NRL. However, there is no wireless service inside the Lab, so you will not have internet access while at NRL.

  • December 5: Invited speakers and poster presenters should send their abstracts to wdsn06@dave.nrl.navy.mil by Monday, December 12. If you have not yet reserved a hotel room, please do so soon - rooms will only be held in reserve until Friday, December 16. If you are interested in sharing a room but don't have a roommate, please let us know at wdsn06@dave.nrl.navy.mil and we will try to help.

  • November 8: Four things should be done now. First, if you are not a US citizen, please send (immediately) your full name and nationality to wdsn06@dave.nrl.navy.mil. Second, if you are planning to bring a student, please send (as soon as possible) their name and contact information to wdsn06@dave.nrl.navy.mil. Third, please send (by November 15) a preliminary title for your talk to wdsn06@dave.nrl.navy.mil. Fourth, reserve your hotel room (before December 16) by following the instructions here.
